Introduction of New Home Page and Features of
CNKI Oversea Site

Dear CNKI users,

We are glad to let you know that the upgraded homepage of CNKI oversea sites (Qingdao) will be officially launched on January 5th, 2018. It will bring several new features to CNKI users. In the past few months, CNKI has achieved several technical breakthroughs in its services, such as online first, intelligent retrieval, enhanced publishing, data publishing, XML fragmented content, etc.. Our aim is to provide better service for our users and to help the literature and knowledge spread as fast as possible.

You may visit the new home page URL (http://oversea.cnki.net/new) or click the button "New Version" in the home page menu bar of the old version (http://oversea.cnki.net). The old version will be kept for months to help you better adapt our new homepage.

The following details are key points of the new homepage. Your comments and suggestions will be highly valued.

1. Modular structure of homepage: he new homepage is mainly divided into several modules including database search bar, subject databases, literature databases, data & statistics and software products, which display all CNKI products and services to users in different categories.

2. Multi-search entrance: the database search module provides three ways including literature search, knowledge element search, and citation search, which enables users to access accurate literature resources by one-click. (Details of three search types please refer to Appendix 1).

3. New publishing modes and data:: there are three new publishing modes in "China Academic Journals Full-text Database (CJFD)", including "Online First", "Enhanced Publishing" and "Data Paper". Users can read articles under different classification. (Details of new publishing modes please refer to Appendix 2).

4. HTML full-text reading: in addition to the existing CAJ and PDF version, a new HTML full-text reading version is added to the CJFD (China Academic Journals Full-text Database). Users can read an article online by clicking "HTML" button behind the article title in the search result page or "HTML online reading" in knowledge network node page. This feature is currently available to institutional users.

During the following period, we will continuously upgrade and optimize the CNKI oversea site to provide better services for our oversea users.

Appendix 1. Introduction of Three Search Modes

1.Literature Search

In the literature search module, there are two search methods: cross-database search and single database search. You may search literatures in one or more different databases among China Academic Journals Full-text Database, China Doctoral Dissertations/ Masters' Theses Full-text Database, China/ International Proceedings of Conference Full-text Database, China Core Newspapers Full-text Database, China Yearbooks Full-text Database, and China Monographic Series Full-text Database. Similarly, you may also search literatures in a single database among Academic Focus, Digital Collection on China Studies, China Patent Full-text Database or Chinese Standard Full-text Database.

2.2.Knowledge Element Search

This search module provides retrieval in China Reference Works Online and China Statistical Yearbooks Full-text Database. You may check the academic concerns, user concerns, concerned literature, discipline distribution of relevant subjects, etc.

3.Citation Search

This search module allows searching the literature which cites a certain article or author in China Citation Database.


Appendix2:Introduction of new-type publication mode

1.Article Online First

Article Online First refers to the articles published online in very priority by digital publishing method through internet (mobile network included). Based on the edit states of online publishing, the articles are commonly grouped into 3 categories: version after accepted, version after type-setting and final version of the issue.

Version After Accepted refers to the manuscript endowed with confirmed content, peer review and approval from the editor in chief of the journal.

Version After Type-setting refers to the manuscript typeset according to the specific format of the journal (including online display format). The content and format are already confirmed, while the information like publication year, volume, issue, and page number may not be available at this stage.

Final Version of the Issue refers to the print version with confirmed publication year, volume, issue and page or digital published compile manuscripts.

2.Enhanced Publishing

Enhanced Publishing is the publication of all academic achievements including root publication and additional content, which form a digital publication of an interconnected composite digital work by organizing and packaging. Root publication refers to digital publication which has the same content in accordance with print publication, or the pure digital publication without printed version. Additional content, also called enhanced material, is digitally published along with the root publication. It includes text, data sheet, image, audio, video, software program, and manuscript etc. And usually it is presented through network exclusively.

3.Data Paper Publishing

Data Paper Publishing refers to releasing data through publication on the internet. Currently, the digital publishing is performed by data paper and data set. Data paper publishing is a kind of online academic publication, which mainly provides academic data and related information including data acquisition, data processing, analytical method, etc.. A data paper is composed of description document, data set (or data set memory address) and metadata.
